Chat Off The Mat - For Women Ready To Rise
Chat Off The Mat is a podcast for women in their wisdom years who are done shrinking — and ready to reclaim their energy, identity, and voice.
Hosted by Rose Wippich — author of Empress Rising, Reiki Master Teacher, and qigong and yoga instructor — the show features honest, grounded conversations and solo teachings on the path of Remembering, Returning, and Reclaiming the power that has always been theirs.

Done Being Invisible. The Upgrade I Didn't See Coming

What does it feel like to lose your voice — literally — right before you're about to claim it?
That's exactly what happened to me.
I recently returned from the Azores — a volcanic archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic that sits on the St. Michael Ley Line, one of the most energetically potent lines on the planet. I went to rest. To restore. To breathe.
The island had other plans.
Within days, I lost my voice. And in the stillness that followed, something came through clear and undeniable:
This isn't just losing my voice. This is an upgrade.
What This Episode Is Really About
I talk about:
- The woman I saw in a café in Portugal who stopped the entire room just by walking in — and what she taught me without saying a word
- Six years behind this mic amplifying other voices while quietly dimming my own
- The visibility wound — what it is, why so many of us carry it, and why it shows up as perfectionism, waiting, and performing invisibility before anyone else can make us feel it
- Why losing my voice in the Azores was the old energy leaving — literally, physically, cellularly
- My "fuck it" moment — the quiet internal shift that changed everything
- What the Empress archetype actually looks like when you stop waiting for permission and start reigning
And the thing I know now with absolute certainty:
My age is not my liability. It is my greatest credential.
IF YOU'VE EVER FELT INVISIBLE, THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU.
You're in your 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. You feel the shift happening inside you. You don't want to light a candle and say a mantra — you want to shed your previous skin, reconnect with what got buried, and step into something bigger than what you've allowed yourself to be.
This isn't decline. This is initiation.
It's not just a returning. It's a becoming.
And your reign? It begins internally.

Welcome And Empress Energy
RoseWelcome to Chat Off The Mat. I'm your host, Rose Wiippich. This is where we explore energy, empowerment, and what it means to embody your Empress energy.
The Lisbon Woman Who Owned It
RoseWell, I want to tell you about a woman I saw in Portugal. I was sitting at an outdoor cafe in Lisbon, the kind of place that just buzzes with afternoon life. Families everywhere, younger tourists taking selfies, you know, that beautiful, chaotic, sun-soaked energy of a place that feels almost too good to be real. And then she walked in. She was probably in her 80s. Maxi dress, a chiffon jacket with the most delicate rose florets, a straw hat, skin that looked luminous and cared for. And a posture, a presence that I could only describe as completely, utterly her own. The whole cafe noticed. I noticed. Everyone noticed. Younger women went up to her and complimented her. Men told her she looked elegant. And she just received it. No deflecting, no, oh, this old thing, or no shrinking. She smiled and accepted every single word like it was simply her due. And I sat there watching her, thinking, that is a woman who decided a long time ago that she wanted to be seen. And she was, by every single person in that cafe. Here's the thing she didn't have a platform, she wasn't famous, she didn't go viral. She was just a woman at a cafe in Lisbon, showing up as herself, fully, beautifully, completely, and the world responded. I didn't know it in that moment, but that woman was the opening scene of my own initiation. And that's what today
Performing Invisibility And Perfectionism
Roseis about. I want to start today with a confession. For a while, longer than I care to admit, I was hiding. Not consciously. I mean, I was showing up, teaching classes, recording this podcast for six years, writing my book, and I having speaking engagements, all of it. But inside, there was a quiet, persistent voice whispering, is there really room for you here? Because if you spend any time in the online wellness space, you notice something pretty fast. It skews young. It skews towards a certain aesthetic. And the algorithm, God bless it. But is it not exactly, it's not exactly falling over itself to amplify women in their 60s or 70s or 80s, like that beautiful woman in Lisbon. And I would be scrolling, watching younger voices get the traction. I mean, all the attention, right? And I'd feel this ache, like this slow creeping sense that the conversation I had so much to contribute to was somehow happening without me. Here's what I know now that I didn't fully see then. I wasn't invisible. I was performing invisibility. I was making myself small before anyone else could make me feel small. I wasn't showing up the way I really should have been showing up. Here's the other thing I was doing. The perfectionism thing. I'm sure some of you have it. Everything had to be ready. Like the system had to be perfect, the strategy airtight, the desk had to show up right, you know, the energy had to be great, you know, and I wasn't exactly moving forward. Perfectionism isn't just is just fear in a blazer. Six years behind the mic, mostly interviewing others, listening to their stories, highlighting their work, celebrating their voices. And I genuinely loved it. I still do. The connections I've made, they've been real, valuable, and I don't regret a single conversation. But recently, something inside me started stirring. I could feel it. I knew when it started. It was a feeling that a change needed to occur. It was palpable. It centered around one thing, my podcast. And the lack of my voice behind it. Not as an interviewer. I was there showing up as an interviewer, of course, but more as someone with something to say. And soon after that feeling became undeniable,
The Azores Retreat And Losing My Voice
RoseI literally lost my voice. So let me back up. I recently returned from the Azores. And if you don't know the Azures, it's this stunning archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic. It's volcanic, it's ancient, otherworldly. And I was there on a yoga and shigong retreat, and my soul had been craving this. I've never been on a retreat, believe it or not. I've been running hard, right? Book, podcast, speaking, building, and I needed to just be by the water for a while, soak up all that wonderful vibe, be around people who are in this environment that really lights me up. I was really looking forward to it. But the island had other plants for me. What a lot of people don't know, and what I was very aware of going in, is that the Azure sits on the St. Michael ley line. It's one of the most energetically potent lines on the planet. Think Sedona, right? So Sedona's got this vibe, this energy vortex, or many of them. Same thing on the Azure. And if you're sensitive to energy, you can feel it. And I'm very sensitive to energy. I've been like that since I was a kid. It's kind of my thing. So I arrived open. I'm ready. I said, I'm ready to receive. I'm open. Let's do this. I was ready to rest. Within days of being there, I lost my voice. Not only that, I felt my body change. It was aching. I had these little muscle aches going on. Not to the point that I felt I was viral. It was just energy kind of moving through and shifting something. I felt I was purging. Was it the ley line? Was it the energy of the island? I think it was. I know it was. The answer came to me. I needed to shift. I needed to change. There was something energetically shifting within me. And then the energy of the island both were affecting me to a point where I had lost my voice for about a month after I got back home. Now, I've been an energy alchemist long enough to recognize that this was an upgrade that was occurring. And when it's happening, it gets uncomfortable. You start to think about things that why is this happening to me? Why am I losing my voice? I had to pause and I had to ask myself, there's something going on here, Rose. You just have to be quiet for a while, go internal and figure it out. So I had to get to work. The mystical, energetic ley lines on the Azores forced me to sit with what this truly meant for my growth, for how I needed to show up for my audience, for how I was showing up for myself. I came home different, still integrating that energy. As I said, I lost my voice for at least a month. I was feeling that upgrade moving through me, still open to new possibilities. The messages were loud and clear in some aspects, and I was struggling to hear some of the others, but I was open to just pausing and allowing and not forcing. And that's the key. When you're going through a shift, you don't grasp because there's nothing to grasp. You wait, you are open and you receive and you will know. You will hear it, you will feel it, you will know it.
The Upgrade And The Lesson
RoseAnd here now, this is what I know about losing my voice or a voice or any voice. Right before you're about to claim it, it's not a coincidence. It's a clearing. And what was being cleared for me? Well, this last October, I published my book, Empress Rising, Own Your Energy, Trust Your Wisdom, and Rewrite the Rules of Aging. I channeled the Empress archetype. I wrote about how the years ahead are years of expansion, not diminishing. How we as empresses are not invisible, we are invincible. And then I published it. And I didn't fully live it. I wrote about women stepping into their power and then kept shrinking mine. I wrote about owning your visibility, and then I kept hiding. The message woke me up when I was writing it, and then I filed it away like a memo to self that I wasn't really, really ready to act on. The Azures made sure I was ready. Because here's the truth I sat within those volcanic mountains, voiceless and achy and stripped of every excuse. I had been waiting. Waiting until the system was perfect. Waiting until I felt completely ready, waiting for an algorithm to decide that I mattered. Waiting honestly for permission. That's right. Permission. Eventually I decided. Before my age is not my liability. It is my greatest credential. The women who need what I have to offer are not looking for someone younger. They are looking for someone who has actually been through it, who left the soul crushing career and survived, who walked through the fire of a midlife, of midlife and came up more, not less. Who can look them in the eye and say, I know, me too. And here's what's waiting on the other side. So I want to tell you about what I'm calling my effit moment. I can't point to one single day. It was more like
The Eff It Moment And Visibility
Rosea slow build. It was a channeled reading that named my wound around visibility, an astrology session, completely independent, different practitioner, actually, different modality that confirmed the exact same thing. A talk I gave in front of 125 women right before I left for the Azure, where I felt electric, like something was already cracking open. And then the island came along and finished the job. And somewhere between the ley line and the volcanic landscape, and the woman in the cafe with her rose florets and her effortless grace, something in me made a decision. Done waiting until I had the perfect system. Done waiting until I felt completely ready. Done waiting for an algorithm to decide that I mattered. Done making myself smaller so that other people felt more comfortable. The culture that tries to make women like us feel irrelevant, it's afraid. It's afraid of what happens when women with real wisdom, real experience, and zero tolerance for nonsense start taking up space unapologetically. Our life isn't over when our kids go to college. Listen to me. Our life isn't over when our kids go to college, when we stop working. That's when things start to get interesting. I talk to so many women, they come up to me and they feel that shift inside. They don't know what's what their next steps are, but they know they just don't want to light candles and say a mantra. Okay. They want to feel themselves shedding their previous skin and reconnecting with the parts of themselves that got buried. It's not just a returning, it's a becoming. They are becoming sovereign and their reign begins internally. That power, that feeling, that is not something to cast aside. It is something to be taken as a power pill every single day.
Why Age Is Your Credential
RoseAnd that's exactly what chat off the mat is becoming. Now, I've been thinking hard about this podcast, honestly, about what it is, about whether or not I should even continue it, and also what it wants to become. A lot of thought has been going into this podcast. But I've dedicated a lot of time, I've invested a lot of time in it, and I've seen the growth. And it's my platform. It's my platform to be here for you. And for six years, I've been behind this mic mostly listening to others. And I'm at every word of every conversation. But something inside me has been stirring really loudly. And it's impossible to ignore. So here's what's changing. You're used to hearing me in conversation with guests, and they will continue. They're not going anywhere. I still have so many that I am going to release, and possibly more that I will do. And I love every single one that I did. They're powerful, they're amazing, and I love supporting other women on this journey to make our lives amazing. But you're going to be hearing more of me, solo, on camera, visible in front of you, in this office with this orange wall that I could you not, a psychic or channeler saw from the other side before I even told her about it. And she said, That's it. That's the energy. Go. That's your space. That's you. Be visible. Because this season of my life isn't only about amplifying other people's messages, it's about finally amplifying mine. Just like you need to be visible, not
How The Show Is Changing
Rosescared of showing up as yourself in front of others with your voice, with your message, with your beauty. I know that I'm not reinventing myself from scratch, and neither are you. I'm stepping fully, finally, unapologetically into what I have always been building toward, mostly me, occasionally someone worth your time. And that's what I'm here for. You and the Empress archetype that I so believe in. It's the heart of everything I teach now. And that archetype, that beautiful empress that sits on her throne, she doesn't shrink. She's there. She's up there for everybody to see. She's not looking to be discovered. She doesn't make herself smaller so others feel comfortable. She shows up fully with all of her years and all of her wisdom, wearing them as a crown, not carrying carrying them as a burden. That woman in that Portuguese cafe, she knew this. She was an empress. She is an empress. She'll continue to be an empress and she'll show others how to be one just by her presence, by being herself.
Where Are You Still Hiding
RoseSo here's what I want to leave with you. Where are you hiding right now? What's the thing you've been waiting to say, to do, to launch, to share? Waiting until it was perfect. Waiting until you felt ready. Waiting for someone to give you permission. Okay? No more that P word. We don't wait for permission. The younger woman or the woman a few steps behind you on this path, she's out there right now looking for someone who has actually been through it, who can say, I know. Me too. And here's what's on the other side. That someone is you. Your effort moment doesn't have to look like mine. It doesn't need a volcanic island or a lost voice or a purge at the end of the Atlantic. It can be quiet, internal, just a decision. But when it comes, and it will come, I hope you recognize it for what it is. Not a setback, not an inconvenience, but an upgrade, a change, a shift, a transformation. When you come out the other side, even when you're going through it, I hope you do exactly what that elegant woman in Portugal do without even thinking about it. Walk in, own the room, accept the praise with grace. Your crown is waiting. And I want to hear from
